Meet Kris Barney

Kris Barney is a survivor of domestic violence and the mother of Miranda Faith. After losing her daughter to an act of violence on January 12, 1999, Kris made a decision that would define the rest of her life: Miranda's death would not be the end of her story. It would be the beginning of something that saved others.

Before Miranda's death, Kris describes herself as shy and meek — a woman who had been conditioned by years of abuse to make herself small. But grief has a way of rewriting a person, and what emerged from Kris's loss was not silence but fire. She channeled her pain into purpose, transforming from a woman who once couldn't speak up for herself into one who now speaks for thousands.

Today, Kris is a nationally recognized speaker and trainer on domestic violence. She travels across the country delivering trainings and presentations at conventions, law enforcement academies, social service agencies, and survivor support groups. Her work bridges the gap between the clinical understanding of domestic violence and the lived experience of surviving it — because she has done both.

Kris lives in Louisiana with her husband. She is the proud mother of grown children Tanner and Emma. She carries Miranda with her every day — not as a wound, but as a compass. Everything she builds, every room she walks into, every survivor she reaches, is guided by the memory of a little girl who loved baseball, animals, and dress-up, and who deserved a life she never got to live.
